I still don’t fully realise that I’m going to make a world trip on a bicycle, but it is getting really close now. Coming Saturday, I will give a farewell party. Normally, I’m not really the kind of person to give a lot of parties, but I like to make an exception for this occasion. In 9 days, I am sitting in the plane towards Canada and it’s likely that I won’t return to the Netherlands for more than a year. I’m really looking forward to it, but I’m also a bit nervous about everything that I will face. I am on schedule with all my preparations. I am surprised about the amount of time (and money) that goes into this preparation. I have most of the equipment in house, including a camera that I can borrow from an aunt (Thanks, Inge!). Furthermore, a specialised store in Amsterdam did some maintenance on my bicycle and I’ve all my documents and vaccinations ready! I will update the page with all my equipment soon. The only thing that I need to do is getting some bicycle maintenance material and some minor practical things. I have the feeling that a preparation for such a trip is never fully ready. You always find something new to do. I just need to make sure that I have the most important things done, the rest will come naturally. I hope to make a short round on my bicycle on Wednesday, with a fully packed bicycle, to get used to the feeling. As it’s freezing a bit in the Netherlands, I can also get used to the low temperature that I will certainly face in Canada.
